In between beautiful sailing days, we spend some time getting more comfortable in the water! The snorkel gear is out and we’re taking photos of fish and underwater wrecks. Plus, our first dangerous situation since arriving in the Bahamas!
We spend our anniversary exploring Green Turtle Cay, including the famous Goombay Smash at Miss Emily’s Blue Bee Bar and dinner at a locals-only restaurant tucked away on a side street. It’s a long, wonderful, hot day in the summer sun, but at the end of the day we’re treated to the Full Flower Moon lighting up the whole anchorage!
We visit Piggyville on No Name Cay, and see the swimming pigs! However, after doing some research there’s clearly a dark side to the pig islands of the Bahamas – maybe we shouldn’t have gone?!
We try to keep working our way south through the Abacos barrier islands, but bad weather chases us further north. We still have fun though, lots of sea life including the goofiest looking fish we’ve ever seen!
We transit the “scary” Whale Cut passage to get the the big city: Marsh Harbour! It’s our first urban area since arriving in the Bahamas, so we’re not sure what to expect. What will the prices be like? What will the locals be like? We’re about to find out!

Drumroll! This is it, this is the moment we’ve been waiting for, months and months of problems and delays all leading up to this one exciting event: WE’RE IN THE BAHAMAS!
We’re shocked when the water in the anchorage suddenly turns clear and we can see straight down to the bottom. Naturally, we react by spending the entire day in the water, exploring and taking a million beautiful photos!
Things are changing! We keep heading south, and we’re starting to see some really pretty water colors. Also featured: I get snarky about bridges and other boats. Get off my lawn! And then it happens: we get as far south in Florida as we want to go – next stop, another country!
After a week of R&R at a marina, our parts finally come in and just like that, we’re on the move again! Plus: meeting up with friends!
