August Adventures
We’ve been chilling in Northern Michigan for the past month, taking some day-trips around the state. Mostly we’re getting caught up and prepping the VW bus for vanlife.

“The success rate among people who set sail…is about 35 to 40 percent.” – Lin Pardey
With such a high rate of sailor attrition, it’s very rare to hear anyone talk about why sailors quit sailing. In this post we explore our own reasons for downsizing our cruising plans, and then I ask others to contribute their insights on why they moved back to land!
This post bounces between SC, FL and NC for a while before we finally make our way up to Michigan for the summer! Try to keep up with all our moves as we wrap things up with the boat and eventually pack up everything we own into our truck! As always, it’s a wild ride but it’s worth the trip!
Did you know that SPF only measures protection against UVB rays, and not UVA rays? Did you know that the most superior sunscreens come from Asia and Europe? If you hate wearing sunscreen, you need to read this post! I bet you will learn something new!
It’s time to upgrade your sunscreen game, read on to find out how.
I’ve tabulated the numbers and the results are in: here are our sailing stats for season two! I even went all out on an infographic so you can digest your data in picture format! How many miles did we cover? How often did we sail? What was our longest trip? It’s all right here in today’s post!
If everything goes according to plan, this should be our last passage on this boat! We experience our worst storm ever while at the dock, which roughs up our nerves a little bit but we’re stubborn. We push through those feelings and hop into the Gulf Stream up to Charleston! And you’ll never guess what we see along the way!
Our life and times in the vicinity of Fort Pierce! We did chores, explored the local flora and fauna, moved off the boat and into the camper, and for the first time in ages enjoyed a lightning storm!
This is a quick how-to for other sailors who need to do a minor gelcoat repair. It is low-key an advertisement for colormatched gelcoat because I LOVE IT SO MUCH. It genuinely turns gelcoat repairs from a frustrating project to a satisfying experience.
We had an amazing season in the Bahamas this year, so Kyle and I wrote down our favorite moments and I compiled them into a top ten list! Here are our top experiences and sights in the Bahamas this year!
We thought we knew what we wanted, and we thought we knew exactly what we would do when we got back to Florida. Then COVID-19 turned the world upside down. We’re now making things up as we go along, but we’ve got some big changes in the works!
