Waiting
We’re waiting for the boat yard to give us the go-ahead for hauling out, and in the meantime…more expensive things break. Yay.

This is truly the most dangerous situation we’ve been in. Fighting the wind and current with only one working engine, an incompetent bridge tender nearly causes a collision.
We’re down to one engine, which is proving to be more challenging than we expected. Wind and current can easily overpower us, and we’re learning how to compensate for that.
We’ve run into an actual Big Problem on this trip, which has left us in a tenuous situation. Now we’ve got a decision to make: can we continue on to Charleston? Or do we need to figure out a faster solution?
We’re doing the boring thing and transiting the ICW, a few miles a day. To help switch things up, we’re pointing a snarkitect eye at the beach houses we see along the way. And! We meet up with friends and take real showers!
Alert! Alert! We have finally LEFT THE DOCK!
We were planning on leaving…but!
Boat life is all about waiting on weather. If you post-pone leaving a couple times, you get more one-last-trip-to-the-grocery-store trips, and more farewell parties!
We’re winding down our time in North Carolina – in fact, we hope to be out of the state by the end of the week! In the meantime, it’s like the Wild West over here, trying to wrap up a few more projects, plus battle whatever new problem we’ve discovered (today’s discovery: a big piece fell off the bottom of the dinghy!?).
We were supposed to be in the Bahamas by now, surrounded by new friends, balmy temps, clear water and fresh lobster.
Instead, we’re alone at this marina, still working on boat projects, with no end in sight. Let’s break it down…
We’re buried in boat work but that doesn’t mean I can’t share some photos! Here’s a quick rundown of the projects we’re tackling, the biggest of which is adding a hard top and more solar power.
Plus: bonus cat picture. If that doesn’t sell it I don’t know what will.
