Small Boat Projects
This month we did some minor boat projects, including waterproofing the bimini (which worked so well that it nearly destroyed the bimini), building and installing shelves in our spice cabinet to maximize storage space, and upgrading some of the flooring from LEGO-texture to a nice smooth surface.
Bimini Waterproofing
In December, Kyle waterproofed our bimini using this stuff, which works really well. It works so well, in fact, that it broke our bimini. We were at work during a heavy rain, and we arrived home to so much water in the bimini that I had to grab our bailing bucket to empty it out. The bimini edge separated from the metal catwalk that bisects the bimini. It was held on by glue, so nothing is actually broken, but I thought it might have stretched the fabric out so much that it wouldn’t recover. The fabric was fine, but obviously we need to find a solution before Charleston monsoon season starts.
Spice Cabinet Shelves
We have one cabinet in the main area of the cabin that has a lot of wasted space – it held one tiny little garbage bag.
We’ve been slowly working on shelves for a spices / condiments cabinet. Kyle cut them out, then I got out the epoxy. Epoxy is my happy place – it might be the fumes…but I love working with epoxy.
Kyle did all the sanding one morning then I painted everything bright teal, because bright colors are my other happy place.
The next day everything was installed and we were able to start filling up the cabinet with our collection of spices, oils and vinegars.
Flooring
The other project we got done was an improvement to our bathroom flooring, the original matting was a little painful. I’m talking stepping-on-a-pile-of-LEGO-with-bare-feet painful. After I start spending more time on the nonskid my feet might build up a tolerance to it, but right now my dainty bare feet prefer a smoother surface.
We picked up some patio flooring at Costco, cut everything down to size, and now the bathroom floors are comfortably accommodate even the daintiest of toes.
